New Year, New Skin!
Okay everyone it’s January 2022, the start of a new year. And each year most people talk about 1 thing, their New Year’s resolutions. I’ve been talking about this a lot lately and it got me thinking, what are my goals for my skin this year?
Another year to be the best versions of ourselves and now we are literally going to put our best faces forward. I’m going to figure out what I want for my skin this year, what ingredients I look for and what products I will be using! My main concerns are dehydration, pigmentation and some aging concerns.
DEHYDRATION
This is number one for me. I am so dehydrated! My skin at points has become so sensitive from how dehydrated it was because it affected the protective barrier of my skin. Dehydrated skin is a thing that most people deal with. Many people do not drink enough water; therefore, your skin will also be dehydrated. Dehydration is a skin condition which means that the skin is lacking in water. Dehydration looks lackluster and flaky. It can also become sensitized and itchy. There are many ways to address this skin concern internally and on the skin. Sober January! Alcohol plays a huge effect on your skin and so does coffee! Ingredients to look for are humectants such as hyaluronic acid. This ingredient holds 1000x its weight in water and bonds it to the skin.
Dermalogica Calm Water Gel
This moisturizer is the love of my life. Everyone needs to add it to their skin care routine. It’s a weightless water gel moisturizer that is incredibly hydrating but also soothes sensitive skin. So refreshing!
HYPERPIGMENTATION
This has been a big concern for me lately. When masks were brought in my skin went through major changes and I was breaking out all the time. As a result, I have some post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation! As my skin is a darker complexion, I hyper pigment very easy. Hyperpigmentation looks like darker spots or areas on your skin. In these areas, there has been an overproduction on melanin. The ingredient I look for is Niacinamide. It is a vitamin B3 (niacin) that helps several other skin care concerns including acne and rosacea.
Dermalogica Dark Spot Serum
This serum works really fast! It can start fading the appearance of dark spots in days. It contains Niacinamide which helps fade the spots but helps even the overall skin tone. It also uses light diffusing technology to even out skin tone. Shiitake mushroom brightens the skin too!
AGING
Because I deal with these other two skin conditions, targeting aging concerns is also a resolution of mine. Dehydration and pigmentation can both lead to the skin looking older. Aging concerns can look like pigmentation, fine line and wrinkles. Aging is a beautiful process but gracefully is how I also look at it! In that case I am going to talk about a retinol. A lot of people start using a retinol in their 30’s but being in the industry we get to try it all. I was hesitant because even I was trying to be cautious with using it as it’s a powerful ingredient. Retinol is derived from vitamin A which helps exfoliate and stimulate collagen production. It targets fine lines and wrinkles, and makes your skin look smooth!
Dermalogica Retinol Clearing Oil
This is a cool retinol because the delivery system is an oil! This is great because it helps target breakouts as well as aging concerns and is a great retinol to start with. It has slow release retinol which will helps with hyperpigmentation as well! It also contains salicylic acid which will help clear breakouts.
